Compare my spend

One of the first things you should consider when planning for retirement is figuring out how much you’re likely to spend during this time.

How much will you spend in retirement?

A lot of people focus on having enough super and other income to live a comfortable retirement, but it’s important to know how much you’re likely to spend so you can work out how much you need to save.

Spending habits will change once you stop working and will continue changing throughout retirement. So, the amount you spend per fortnight in your first year after work retirement will be very different from how much you spend ten, twenty or thirty years in.

Our Compare my spend tool uses spending patterns of real people to let you find out how much you’re likely to spend in retirement. Based on your retirement age, the tool shows you how much people just like you living in your general area are spending in retirement. You can see how much they spend on food and groceries, utilities, housing and other types of spending categories.

You can also see how the spending patterns of people in your area changes with age, and how it compares to your State or Territory and national spending patterns.
